Established as a legacy of David Johston, Distinguished Professor at Massey University and founding member of RRANZ, following his sudden passing in early 2025, this annual scholarship is designed to open doors for emergency management professionals who have the drive and dedication to grow, but not always the funding to do so. It reflects exactly what David stood for — capability built across the whole sector, not just within the agencies that can most easily afford it.
