RECOGNITION OF

 PRIOR LEARNING and

 recognition of current

 CAPABILITY HUB

Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Capability (RCC) provides a pathway to recognise your experience and training in place of attending our full Response and Recovery Leadership Development Programme (RRLDP).

Pathways towards gaining RPL/RCC certification

PATHWAY 1
Recognition of current capability (RCC)
If you have:
  • completed CIMS 4 (or equivalent)
  • worked as a response and recovery leader within the last five years
  • detailed evidence, such as plans, certificates, testimonials, awards etc. as evidence of your experience
you can choose to apply for RCC for part or all of the RRLDP Tier One programme.

When successfully completed, you will gain an equivalent qualification as if you had attended the full RRLDP Tier One Programme.

How to apply and complete the RCC process?

You will need to provide a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your competence in the key subject areas covered in each course (download the portfolio requirements below for more information).

Part One $500 excl GST Download
Part Two $950 excl GST Download
Part One and Two $1,350 excl GST Download
EXAMPLE

Tipene has worked in the emergency management sector for 35 years, holding senior roles for the last 10 years.

Tipene’s options:
  • apply for RCC for Tier One Parts One and Two - as long as he has sufficient evidence to meet the requirements, OR
  • apply for RCC for parts of the programme, OR
  • enrol in the full programme and refresh his knowledge.
PATHWAY 2
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) transition course
If you have:
  • completed CIMS 4 (or equivalent)
  • worked as a response and recovery leader within the last five years
  • completed a prior Controller course through Massey-AUT or Auckland CDEM (you will need to provide a certificate as proof of course completion with your application form)
you can choose to apply for RPL and register for our Transition course.

When successfully completed, you will gain an equivalent qualification as if you had attended the full RRLDP Tier One Programme.

Why complete the RPL process?

Emergency Management is constantly evolving. The RRLDP incorporates material not included in prior courses. The curriculum is informed by the newly developed Capability Framework and the findings of incident response reviews from New Zealand and Australia. Completing the RPL process will ensure you are up-to-date.

What is involved in the RPL process?

1.  Complete an online assessment

  • The assessment is the same as the RRLDP Tier One Part One course assessment. You do not need to attend the online course.
  • The self-paced assessment comprises 13 questions requiring less than 200-word answers. The estimated time to complete is 2-3 hours.
  • If the assessment shows areas you need to improve in, you can enrol for the relevant module or modules (at an additional cost of $100 per module) and then re-submit your assessment.

2.  Attend a 1.5-day in-person Transition course

The subject matter and assessment of this course is distinctly different from the previous Controller development programmes. The most significant differences are the increased inclusion of partnering with iwi in response and recovery leadership, and in setting the programme within an all-agencies, all-hazards context, rather than the CDEM Controller focus of the previous programmes. This course will cover these key capability areas.

3.  Complete an online assessment after the Transition Course

This will be a self-paced assessment with short answer questions. The estimated time to complete is 2-3 hours.
